Inês d’Orey takes as the starting point for this exhibition the photographic work developed for the book Paisagens Construídas – O passado e o presente da arquitectura portuguesa em 16 obras+1, by Valdemar Cruz. A selection of 16 large-format photographs offers, through the powerful artistic dimension of Inês d’Orey’s gaze, a singular journey through multiple architectural proposals developed throughout the 20th and 21st centuries.
More than simple formal records, Inês undertakes an ambitious investigation into the buildings and their contexts, to the point of constructing her own discourse around the photographed works — one that exists beyond and independently of the texts associated with them. Rather than contradicting these texts, her photographs complement them with another perspective, opening up new possibilities for interpretation.
The exhibition also includes a video work, extending this investigation beyond photography and introducing another dimension to the reading of the architectural spaces and their contexts.
