Limbo reflects on what it means to exist in a state of uncertainty, suspension and anticipation. Through photographs and video portraying young protesters, Inês d’Orey offers an emotional portrait of a generation caught between revolt and paralysis, urgency and inertia.
In a time when the boundaries of youth are increasingly extended, young people have access to unprecedented means of expression and a powerful collective voice. Yet this apparent empowerment coexists with a profound sense of uncertainty about the future. Limbo captures this tension in bodies that are simultaneously restless and still, voices raised in protest alongside moments of silence, waiting and hesitation.
The series portrays a generation looking towards an uncertain future, as if standing before a stage without daring to step onto it. Suspended between what is and what might come, it waits for something to change — perhaps without knowing what that change should be.
Limbo was created in 2012 and is presented as a photographic and video installation.
