Caixa Negra ( Black Box) explores the narrative power of objects together with a discourse of construction/ deconstruction in the relation of text and image.

After the disappearance of the Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 March 2014, Inês d'Orey photographed a black box of an airplane, driven by the exceptional narrative character that this object holds. This is how she started a collection of objects, some more unusual than others, which intertwine with facts, stories and extraordinary ideas, in a space proposed by the author.

In this cabinet of curiosities of objects, either banal or uncommon, the levels of interpretation and meaning are notably subjective. The black-and-white photographs, unique copies photo-sensitized with photographic emulsion on watercolour paper, are engraved with a word in bas-relief, only perceptible when the viewer approaches the work. Sentences in stencil that are scattered throughout the exhibition space, also give as clues to the ideas associated with some of the objects. The photographed objects acquire this way a new meaning wherein the visual impact is emphasised or diminished.

The central presence of a large light box reminds us how it all began.

Caixa Negra suggests a constant interplay between image and text, between the viewer's perception and the (often cryptic) interpretation of the author, thus creating a cycle of multiple experiences and meanings.
All photographs are unique b&w prints in a wooden frame. Unique Edition.
